ABOUT THE OAKVILLE MHA

Seals Forever...

The Oakville Arena has been a fixture in the community of Oakville since it's opening in 1963. It has been home to legendary players such as NHL'ers Rick Blight and Arron Asham, as well as several Provincial Championship teams.

The modern Seals trace their lineage back to one of the greatest dynasties in the history of the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League. From 1968-1975 the Seals ran up an 84-26-8 record and claimed 5 SEMHL championships. Backed by seven-time SEMHL top goalie Bob Kitchen the Seals were the class of Intermediate/Senior hockey in Manitoba and made the Oakville Arena a house of horrors for the visitors. The Seals later reemerged in the Tiger Hills Hockey League as the Bruins before reclaiming their original name and rejoining the SEMHL.

The youth hockey system in Oakville has also enjoyed it's share of success as evidenced by the pictures displayed proudly on the walls of the lobby in the arena. Fuelled by players like MJHL scoring champion Marcel Pruden, NCAA star defenceman Ken Essay and CJHL Player of the Year Eric Delong, the Seals have claimed Provincial championships at almost every level imaginable over the past three decades.

Today, the proud history and tradition of the Seals is alive and well and embodied by a list of committed volunteers who allow the Arena and the BIG RED MACHINE roll on. Thanks to these volunteers, Oakville Minor Hockey provides prime time ice, an oustanding practice to game ratio and a safe, inclusive environment for young athletes to learn the value of teamwork, commitment and community.

Play with pride Seals.
